Moscow, July 5 (RHC)-- Russia has considered US attempts to isolate Cuba as a policy doomed to failure, as well as the almost 60 years of the economic, commercial and financial blockade it has imposed on the island.

Commenting to Prensa Latina News Agency on the recent enactment of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act, Alexander Schetinin, director for the Latin America Department at the Russian Foreign Ministry said Cuba enjoys great international prestige.

“Cuba's standing is based on its principled stance, on the defense of its sovereignty, its national dignity, its identity and its right to choose the way of life that best responds to the interests of its people,” Schetinin said.

The official mentioned that the yearly and almost unanimous rejection of the US economic blockade at the UN General Assembly proves that this policy is overwhelmingly rejected by the international community.

The diplomat said that Russia will maintain its cooperation with Cuba, as clearly acknowledged by the leaders of both countries.
