Havana, August 10th (RHC)-- The16th  Regular Meeting of the Commission for Small-scale, Artisanal and Aquaculture Fisheries for Latin America and the Caribbean, will be held in Cuba from September 4 to 6 and to analyze the region’s challenges in the achievement of sustainable development of this activity.

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the encounter will identify possible South-South cooperation actions and strategic alliances with other organizations and will socialize the new statutes of the Commission, which incorporate marine fisheries.
 

The meeting will encourage the Commission’s member countries to adapt their work to the framework of the Global Blue Growth Initiative, which aims to maximize economic and social benefits while minimizing environmental degradation caused by fishing.
 

Participating states will also establish priorities, focused on contributing to the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDS).

For 40 years, FAO has been cooperating with the Cuba and providing it with technical assistance, as evidenced, for example, by the development of ten projects in 2018, which included, among others, the delivery to the Ministry of the Food Industry of 15 families of Genetically Improved Farm Tilapia juveniles, as part of the policy of genetic improvement of the species in the country.
