Havana, August 19 (RHC)-- The exhibit "Children of Chernobyl in Cuba," by the Peruvian photographer Sonia Cunliffe, has opened in Havana, displaying photographs, documents and audiovisuals on the care given to thousands of Ukrainian children affected by the greatest nuclear disaster in history.

According to guests on the Mesa Redonda television program, photo-journalist Cunliffe highlighted the solidarity dimension of the event, the love of hundreds of Cuban doctors and even the unconditional work of those who mediated as translators without any professional preparation.

In 2011 while visiting Cuba, Sonia Cunliffe began the preparations for the exhibit and began gathering materials and photographs.  Later in 2015, another work project brought her back to Cuba, where she linked up with the Cuban journalist Maribel Acosta and decided to undertake research on what she began four years earlier.

Every detail of the story lies in this multidisciplinary exhibition, evidence of the human magnitude of a project that lasted 21 years and treated more than 26,500 children.
