New National Candidacy Commission sworn in

Members of the Commission represent different sectors of the Cuban society

Havana, August 27 (RHC)--The members of the National Candidacy Commission took office Tuesday. The body is established by the recently passed Electoral Law that regulates polling processes in Cuba.

In a solemn ceremony at the Jose Marti Memorial in Havana, the President of the National Electoral Council, Alina Balseiro, delivered the certificates and credentials to the Commission’s new members.

The Commission is made up of seven representatives from different sectors of Cuban society, and its responsibility is to nominate pre candidates for the country's highest offices: the president, vice president of the Republic of Cuba, as well as of the president, vice president and secretary of the parliament, members of the State Council, and that of deputies to the national parliament

Upon taking their oath, the Commission´s president, Maria Consuelo Baeza, pledged to enforce the Constitution, the Electoral Law and other regulations governing the country's electoral processes.

At the end of the ceremony,  Secretary of the Council of State, Homero Acosta, congratulated the members of the Commission and recalled that in October an extraordinary session of the Parliament  will be held for the election of the main positions of the State.
