Havana, February 10 (RHC)--The 12th International Congress Universidad 2020 is opening on Monday in the Karl Marx Theatre under the theme "The University and the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development."

The event, which will run until February 14 at the Havana Convention Center, will focus on the implementation of the goals on education set by the global Agenda, approved in 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly, Prensa Latina reports.

In Goal 4, the 2030 Agenda urges countries to ensure inclusive, equitable, and quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.

More than 1,300 delegates from 52 countries, including 200 university rectors and other senior executives from the education sector, will attend the event.

Among its goals, the Agenda expects that by 2030 countries will ensure equal access for all men and women to quality technical, professional, and higher education, including university education.

It also aims to achieve by 2030 a substantial increase in the number of young people and adults who have the necessary skills, particularly technical and vocational, to access employment and decent work.
