Havana, April 26 (RHC) – The visiting Portuguese Secretary of State for Foreign Business and Cooperation, Luis Alvaro Barbosa de Campos Ferreira, on Friday expressed his confidence in the strengthening of relations with Cuba, following the signing of a memorandum of understanding between his country and the Caribbean island.
Barbosa de Campos referred to Portugal's willingness to collaborate with Cuba in different sectors, such as tourism and renewable energies sources.
“We hope the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement with the European Union, to be discussed by the end of April, to be successful,” the Portuguese official told reporters in Havana.
Among examples of bilateral cooperation between the two countries, Barbosa highlighted the presence of more than a hundred Cuban doctors in Portugal.
Marcelino Medina, Cuba's First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the Portuguese officer on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding that will serve as a practical and effective mechanism for political consultations.
The memorandum will promote political dialog, mutual contacts and the expansion of bilateral relations that will develop on the basis of the principles and provisions of the UN Charter, a joint statement said.
