Havana, May 4 (RHC)-- Cuba presented its experience in treating patients who test positive for SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus at the First Regional Technical Meeting of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), held via the Internet on Monday.

From the headquarters of the International Press Center of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Francisco Durán, National Director of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Public Health, and Dr. Ricardo Pereda, coordinator of the Group of Experts of the same organization, presented the results of the Caribbean nation in the confrontation with COVID-19.

During the on-line, virtual meeting -- convened by Cuba as pro tempore chairman of the ACS -- the Cuban experts made a special presentation to share details on the clinical aspects of the disease, the protocols for epidemiological action and the appropriate treatments to prevent the spread of the pandemic, explained Eugenio Martínez, director general for Latin America and the Caribbean at the Cuban Foreign Ministry.

Currently, Cuban health professionals are fighting the new coronavirus causing COVID-19 in several countries in the Caribbean region, including Antigua and Barbuda, Trinidad and Tobago, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada, St. Kitts and Nevis, Barbados, Dominica, Haiti and Jamaica.

The Association of Caribbean States is a regional organization that seeks to strengthen and integrate the countries of the Caribbean Sea area, founded on July 24, 1994, with the objective of creating a common economic space, preserving the sea and promoting the sustainable development of its 31 member states.
