United Nations, July 10 (RHC)-- "The United States has more interest and is devoting more effort to saving the economy and damaging other countries in this pandemic, than to protecting its people," Cuban Ambassador to the UN Ana Silvia Rodriguez said today through her official Twitter account.

In recent statements by Dr. Anthony Fauci, head of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, he said the United States is not doing well in its response to COVID-19, compared to other nations.

Cuba's alternate permanent representative to the United Nations also presented figures showing how her country has successfully managed to contain the new coronavirus.  She noted that in Cuba, there are just over 2,400 positive cases of COVID-19 since the first were detected on March 11th, and 86 deaths due to the disease.  No children or health workers have died, he said.

She also recalled that the island's universal and free health system guarantees access for everyone to the tests to detect the new coronavirus: of the 198,675 samples tested, 2,413 are positive, representing 1.2%.

Meanwhile, the United States now has more than 3.25 million accumulated cases positive for COVID-19 since the beginning of the outbreak in that country, and more than 136,000 have died from the disease.
