Havana, November 2 (RHC)-- The Governing Council of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) highlighted on Monday, in its 206th edition, the work of Cuban congresswoman Yolanda Ferrer. She was a member of the executive committee for four years.

The IPU board also recognized Ferrer's participation in defense of the foreign policy of the largest island of the Antilles.

During this second day of its extraordinary session, the entity announced the election in the first round of the Portuguese parliamentarian, Duarte Pacheco, as president of the IPU.

Duarte Pacheco has been a member of the Portuguese Parliament since 1991, has been president of the Geopolitical Group Doce Más since 2017, and is a member of the Permanent Commission for Peace and International Security of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

The legislators also analyzed the financial results for 2019 and the IPU's Budget and Work Program for 2021.

The Extraordinary Session of the 206th Governing Council of the Inter-Parliamentary Union will be held virtually until November 4.

On its second day of work, the Cuban delegation, headed by Ana María Mari Machado, vice president of the National Assembly of People's Power (Parliament), participated.
