Foreign Minister signs  instrument of Cuba's accession to ASEAN

Havana, November 10 (RHC) The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, signed this Tuesday, November 10, the instrument of accession of Cuba to the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC), within the framework of the 37th Summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), held virtually.

The ceremony was attended by the Foreign Ministers of the ten member countries of that regional organization.

The Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs highlighted the interest in expanding cooperation with ASEAN. He also thanked the support given by that organization and its member States to the United Nations resolution "Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the United States of America against Cuba".

Rodríguez Parrilla welcomed the relevant role of ASEAN as an international actor and that of Vietnam in its presidency.

The Foreign Ministers of the ten countries from SouthEast Asia signed the instrument of extension of the TAC.

Cuba became the first signatory country of the Caribbean and the fifth of Latin America.
