Cuban health professionals arrive in Maputo to face Covid-19.

Maputo, March 23 (RHC)--Mozambique's permanent secretary of Health, Zacarías Castigo Zindoga, praised his country and Cuba's relations at various levels.

The Mozambican high official made the statement after the arrival of a reinforcement of 39 Cuban health professionals to face Covid-19, which has claimed the lives of more than 700 people in the African country.

Welcoming the International Contingent of Doctors Specialized in Exceptional Situations and Serious Epidemics, Henry Reeve, Castigo Zindoga stressed the importance that Mozambique attaches to the relations between Havana and Maputo.

He recalled that his relation dates back to before 1975 when the African nation achieved its independence.

The government representative pointed out that Cuban nurses and doctors' presence will improve the quality of care for Covid-19 patients, who number almost 65 thousand since the beginning of the pandemic.

He commented that the clinical and healthcare component continues to be a priority in the fight against the pandemic, which is why his country has opted for the presence of the qualified Cuban professionals.

On January 24, the first reinforcement group of 14 doctors and nurses arrived, all of them with intensive care training to face the pandemic.

These doctors and nurses from the Henry Reeve Contingent join the almost 300 health specialists who, spread throughout the ten provinces of Mozambique, have been providing direct services since 2020 in four central, six provincials, and three district hospitals.
