Madrid, April 12 (RHC)-- The Government of Spain ratified its disagreement with the tightening of economic sanctions against Cuba during the U.S. administration of Donald Trump and hoped that his successor, Joe Biden, would reverse them.

'We reject the extraterritorial application of national sanctioning measures for being contrary to International Law'. The Spanish Executive responds to a question posed by the deputy of the leftist alliance United We Can (UP) Gerardo Pisarello.

In its response, to which Prensa Latina had access, the Government recalls that 'it has categorically rejected those decisions it has considered harmful to its legitimate interests and of the European Union (EU) and its member states- on the island.'

Among those decisions, it mentions the activation of Titles III and IV of the Helms-Burton Act by the Trump administration.

'We have reiterated this same message of rejection and our request to reverse that activation, in the framework of the reflection that the new Biden administration is making of its policy towards Cuba and in the context of the transatlantic relationship', the Spanish government stressed.
