Holguin, June 13 (RHC)-- Cuban Vice President and Commander of the Revolution Ramiro Valdes corroborated on Thursday the advancement of a project to set up a 184-megawatt power plant in eastern Cuba. The plant, replacing two old electric generation facilities, will provide energy to a nickel processing plant, the population and other facilities in the eastern locality of Moa, located 180 kilometers east of the city of Holguin.

Commander Ramiro Valdes received detailed information about the project, which is valued at some 280 million dollars and is the one of the largest of its kind included in the energy program of the Cuban Revolution.

Investment director Alfredo Rivero told reporters that the diesel-fueled project in Moa has advanced 94 percent implementation, and five of the engines operating the plant are now being fine-tuned.

During the tour of the project, Vice President Ramiro Valdes was accompanied by the First Communist Party Secretary in the province of Holguin, Luis Antonio Torres.
