Havana, May 20 (RHC) --The Cuban Casas de Cambio S.A. Mercantile Company (CADECA) has suspended the foreign currency exchange at the island's airports.
In a statement, CADECA stated that as it was duly informed in April 2020, due to the Covid-19, there has been a considerable reduction in the entry of international tourism to the island.
Consequently, there has been a significant deficit of freely convertible currency, which the entity buys through exchanges.
During this complex situation, CADECA, with the adoption of extraordinary measures, kept providing in the offices located in the international airports the exchange service with an established limit.
Considering the low availability of foreign currencies in the exchange offices, CADECA announced that as of Thursday, it would stop providing that service until further notice.
