Havana, August 31 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel urged on Tuesday to take extreme sanitary measures and speed up the vaccination process to cut the spread of Covid-19.

'The slight downward trend in Covid-19 cases that we have had in recent days cannot be a cause for confidence. On the contrary, we need to take extreme measures and speed up vaccination,' the President tweeted.

The call comes after the fourth consecutive day, the figures registered on the island fell below seven thousand cases.

However, health authorities explained at a press conference that although the positive impact of the immunization process with vaccines is observed, the number of confirmed patients is still high.

In another tweet, the President expressed concern for increasing positive numbers in pregnant and puerperal women and insisted that 'with them all care is little.'

Díaz-Canel shared the warning issued by the Cuban Minister of Health, José Ángel Portal, who warned that although the Cuban health protocol for dealing with Covid-19 pays special attention to this vulnerable group, 'prevention continues to be the most important therapeutic weapon.'
