Cuban foreign minister talks with counterparts from several countries at the UN

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez met with numerous delegations during UN session

United Nations, September 25 (RHC)-- Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez thanked his Kenyan counterpart, Raychelle Awour Omamo, for his government's support for the safe return of the doctors kidnapped two years ago.  On his Twitter account, the Cuban foreign minister assured that both parties noted the positive state of bilateral relations and the will to continue strengthening them. 

On April 12, 2019, Cuban doctors Assel Herrera and Landy Rodríguez were ambushed and kidnapped by members of the Al Shabab group in Kenya.  From that moment on, the Cuban government has ratified on several occasions the permanent communication at the highest level with authorities in Kenya and Somalia, where it is believed that they may have been taken.

In addition, Bruno Rodriguez spoke with his counterparts from Guatemala, Pedro Bolo, and Nicaragua, Denis Moncada.  In both meetings, he ratified Cuba's willingness to further strengthen bilateral ties and boost economic, commercial and cooperation relations. 

The Caribbean top diplomat also held a meeting with the Iranian foreign minister, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, to whom he reiterated his condemnation of the unilateral coercive measures against Tehran.

The Cuban minister exchanged with counterparts from different nations and high-level representatives of international organizations within the framework of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly, which will last until September 27th .  Previously, Bruno Rodriguez spoke with the foreign ministers of Russia, Syria, Vietnam, Qatar, South Africa and Portugal. He also spoke with the UN High Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations, Miguel Ángel Moratinos, with the Executive Director of the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS, Winnie Byanyima, as well as with the president of the current session, the Maldivian diplomat, Abdulla Shahid.  In all cases, he ratified Cuba's commitment to multilateralism, cooperation in different areas and strict respect for the principles of the United Nations Charter.
