Havana, November 5, (RHC)--A plane loaded with 8 tons of food donated by the US people to the Cuban people arrived Friday morning in Havana.
The donation is the result of Code Pink, Bridges of Love, and People's Forum solidarity groups' work, and it is directed to the Cuban people and through the Martin Luther King Jr. Center. It will be distributed in the island's eastern provinces
The Bridges of Love project leader, Carlos Lazo, reported the arrival in Havana on Facebook.
"We have just landed in Cuba with a shipment of nearly 18,000 pounds of food for the Cuban people."
He explained the shipment includes tens of thousands of cans of tuna, thousands of pounds of spaghetti, and hundreds of pounds of medical supplies.
He added the donation was purchased with funds donated over the past few weeks by Americans throughout the United States. Cuban Americans also contributed generously to this effort, he added.
He particularly praised the support provided by several Youtube platforms, whose followers contributed to promoting this initiative and the purchase and shipment of this food.
In Miami, young Cuban-Americans volunteered their time and effort in loading and transporting the merchandise.
Lazo added that this is the first of several shipments that will also include thousands of pounds of powdered milk and other supplies arriving in Cuba soon.
