Havana, February 5 (RHC)-- "The blockade is a crime against humanity and against you," said Martin Schirdewan, co-president of the left-wing association in the European Parliament, during a meeting with representatives of Cuban civil society held in Havana.

The German parliamentarian said about the intense working days that it is a real pleasure rather than an effort, in view of all the experiences gained during the official visit they have developed since last Monday to the country.

I hope that we will continue this close collaboration in order to build a modern society with room for exchange and popular participation, he added.

For his part, José Alexis Ginarte Gato, president of the National Union of Jurists, referred to the legal transformation as a project that responds to the interests of Cuban society, with an unprecedented component of citizen empowerment at the first levels of decision making.

She also pointed out that last year 19 laws of higher rank and 75 decree laws were passed, in which the people actively exercised their power in the collective construction of legal matters.

Likewise, Julia Gastón, president of the National Association of the Blind, highlighted the presence and attention to people with disabilities in all public policies adopted by the Cuban State for the benefit of the most vulnerable.

The space served to alert those present of the danger posed by the imperialist pretensions of isolating Cuba and intensifying the hostility of the U.S. government policy against the Caribbean nation.

Abel Prieto, on behalf of the intellectuals and the host institution of the event, described as vital that solidarity fabric, which has prevented the siege on the largest of the Antilles, constituted in a diplomacy of culture and ethics.

In a subsequent press conference, Spanish Senator Manuel (Manu) Pineda said he recognized in the Cuban people a worthy and heroic friend who raises necessary questions to achieve the dream of a fairer and more humanitarian world.

The experience helps to decontaminate disinformative biases in some of the visitors and demolishes the stories of the ultra-right where reality has become irrelevant, said the also vice-president of the parliamentary group of friendship with Cuba.
