Havana, May 24 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez praised the donation received by the pediatric liver transplant program in the country, by the solidarity platform Bridges of Love, from the United States.
"Carlos Lazo and his Puentes de Amor are in Cuba with medicines for children awaiting transplants, confirm that love overcomes hate; solidarity is the most beautiful act of love for humanity," the President posted on Twitter.
Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla also thanked the gesture through the same social media network and stressed that this delivery gives dreams back to Cuban families.
The Cuban diplomat stressed that this gesture of altruism breaks the obstacles placed by the U.S. blockade on the country's public health system, which has seen its access to supplies and medicines become more expensive or prevented from acquiring technologies with U.S.-origin components.
On Sunday, representatives of the Bridges of Love initiative delivered to the William Soler Hospital in Havana a part of the chemical compound essential for liver transplants in children.
Authorities of the Ministry of Public Health told Cuban television that this program had been halted for two years due to the lack of the drug and explained that it would be resumed due to the solidarity gesture of this project.
