Brussels, June 22 (RHC)-- The Vice President of the European Parliament Pina Picierno, on Tuesday called the blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba an anachronism and demanded its end.

The member of the European Parliament made that statement when she received the Secretary of the National Assembly of the island, Homero Acosta.

The member of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats also rejected the suffering that the measure has caused the Cuban people for decades.

Picierno also regretted the impact on Cuba of the Covid-19 pandemic, effects that were combined with the tightening of the U.S. blockade.

The vice-president of the European Parliament considered that the best way forward is to support "innovation and rights."

For his part, the Cuban lawmaker acknowledged Picierno's against a blockade that has lasted for more than 60 years and which also affects, with its extraterritorial nature, companies, banks, and European citizens.

In the European Parliament, the head of the parliamentary delegation of the Caribbean country, other members of the same, such as deputies Estela Cristina Luna and Luis Morlote, and diplomats headed by Ambassador Yaira Jimenez, spoke with several MEPs.
