Newly elected Prime Minister of Grenada, Dicknon Mitchell.

Havana, June 24 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel congratulated Dickon Mitchell on his election as Prime Minister of Grenada.

In a message on Twitter, the Cuban President ratified Havana's willingness to continue advancing the development of friendly relations and cooperation for the benefit of both peoples.

On that social network, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez also congratulated Mitchell on his election results.

The head of Cuban diplomacy reaffirmed the willingness to continue strengthening the historical ties of fraternity, cooperation, and solidarity between the two countries.

The 44-year-old Dickon Mitchell, leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party, was voted Thursday in the Congress of Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique as the new prime minister of that country.

Havana and Saint George established relations on April 14, 1979, one month after the triumph of the Grenadian revolution led by Maurice Bishop.

During these years, Cuba provided technical assistance to that country in sectors such as education, health, fishing, agriculture, construction, and sports.

According to the Foreign Ministry's website, more than 300 Grenadian students graduated from universities on the largest Antillean island, and about 40 continue their education there.
