Havana, July 6 (RHC)-- The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and President of the Republic Miguel Diaz-Canel expressed his appreciation on Wednesday of the Oriente Gallery, in Santiago de Cuba, noting the photographic exhibition 'Magical City' by artist Gretel Arrate.

As part of his visit to the city, which is celebrating the 41st edition of the International Caribbean Festival, the president praised the venue, considering it "a beautiful cultural space in a beautiful and heroic city."

The exhibition gathers 40 large-format snapshots that become a gift to the history of the Fiesta del Fuego, and opens the city to the polychromatic and diverse identity of this region, according to the criteria of journalist Reynaldo Cedeño.

The chief of state observed the pieces in detail. He was accompanied by José Ramón Monteagudo and Beatriz Johnson, first secretary of the PCC and governor of the province, respectively, along with creators of the plastic arts.

Díaz-Canel talked with people who gathered spontaneously at the central site.  He also visited the Casa del Caribe and exchanged opinions with members of traditional popular culture groups.

At the 'Antonio Maceo' Thermoelectric Power Plant (Renté), the dignitary checked the progress of the works and learned that conditions are being prepared for in-depth maintenance in order to avoid further energy losses.  This plant currently contributes 230 MW to the National Electric Power System.
