Rome, July 12 (RHC)—Pope Francis expressed his affection for the Cuban people.

In an exclusive interview with Televisa and Univision Spanish language networks, the Pontiff said he loved the Cuban people very much, that he had good human relations with the Cuban people, and with Raul Castro.

He said he was happy with the agreement reached between Cuba and the United States during the Obama Administration, which unfortunately now stopped.

Pope Francis added that probing dialogues are underway to shorten distances.

The Pope said Cuba is a symbol, that it has a great history and that he felt very close to the Cuban bishops and the Cuban people.

Pope Francis made a pastoral visit to the island between September 20 and 22, 2015, a few days after the reestablishment of diplomatic relations between the island and the United States, which he described as a sign of the victory of the culture of dialogue and meeting.

On that occasion, he encouraged the leaders of both nations to continue advancing along this path and to develop their full potential as proof of the high service called to render in favor of peace and the well-being of their people and of all America.
