Havana, Jul 18 (RHC)--Dozens of people participated in Los Angeles in an event of solidarity with Cuba that called for an end to the blockade imposed by successive U.S. governments on the Caribbean nation for more than 60 years.

Activist Carlos Lazo, the coordinator of the 'Bridges of Love' project, told Prensa Latina news agency that the meeting was also aimed at "raising funds for the Saving Lives initiative to take four anesthesia machines to the Carlos J. Finlay Hospital in Havana."

"Sponsored by the organization 'Hands off Cuba', 'Bridges of Love' and other community groups, the meeting was a tribune in which all voices demanded the cessation of this unilateral siege against the island," he explained.

In a message for the occasion, Ambassador Lianys Torres, head of Cuba's mission in Washington, greeted the organizers and highlighted the importance of initiatives like this.

"The collection of funds for anesthesia machines and other surgical equipment for Cuban hospitals, as part of the Saving Lives campaign, is another example of the immense solidarity that unites the peoples of Cuba and the United States," she said.
