Cuba's Deputy, Permanent Representative to the UN Yuri Gala.

United Nations, July 21 (RHC) Cuba reaffirmed at the UN its solidarity with Africa, a continent where some 6,000 Cuban people from different sectors, such as health and education, are working today.

The Caribbean country's deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, Yuri Gala, recalled the help provided by Cubans to the struggles for independence and sovereignty of African territories.

At present, the collaboration between Cuba and Africa is diversifying, said the ambassador during a high-level dialogue at the UN held Wednesday.

Gala also pointed out that there are more than 30 thousand African graduates of education in the largest of the Antilles.

Africa will always be able to count on Cuba's solidarity assistance. My country ratifies its invariable will to continue contributing with all its resources to the development of that continent and the success of its Agenda 2063, he stressed.

The Cuban representative added that the island's commitment is to honor the ties of blood, culture, and history that unite them.

He also emphasized that there is still a long way to go to overcome underdevelopment, the result of centuries of exploitation of natural and human resources in those lands.

For this reason, he said, it is essential to adopt mechanisms for foreign debt relief and mobilize resources for the continent by attracting foreign direct investment, official development assistance, and other external financing sources.

Inclusive economic growth and sustainable development, job creation, and the eradication of poverty and hunger must be achieved, he stressed.

Similarly, he continued, it is necessary to promote effective measures to support the region's priorities in recovering from the Covid-19 pandemic, energy development, and strengthening health systems to prevent, protect against, and combat disease outbreaks.
