Havana, July 29 (RHC)-- Cuba is working on the creation of a government policy for the care of children and youth, local media reported.

The purpose of this tool is to articulate the different programs, projects and legal frameworks to improve attention to a population segment that has always been a priority for the Cuban state.

A Cuban television report stated that the document should be completed by the end of this year and sets short- and medium-term objectives with a view to 2030.

One of the participants in the elaboration of the policy, María Isabel Domínguez, coordinator of the Youth Studies Group at the Center for Psychological and Sociological Research, commented that conditions must be created for the participation and full exercise of young people's rights.

She explained that this challenge for the country will allow this population segment to contribute to social development and satisfy their interests and needs.

As part of the elaboration of the policy, a survey was carried out in June in which more than 20 thousand people participated.

Among the topics that generated the greatest number of opinions were the economy, access to and quality of education, motivation, marginalization and inequalities, being heard and participating in decision-making.

Cuba faces a demographic challenge due to the accelerated aging of its population (around 20 percent of its inhabitants) and low fertility rates, which makes population replacement difficult.
