Cuba congratulates the Colombian President on his inauguration

Havana, August 7 (RHC)—Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel congratulated Colombian President Gustavo Petro on his inauguration this Sunday.

On Twitter, Diaz-Canel wished Petro success in this new stage that gets underway after the resounding electoral victory obtained thanks to the overwhelming popular support.

The Cuban leader ratified Cuba’s commitment to peace in Colombia.

Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez headed the Cuban delegation to the inauguration ceremony. On Twitter, he wished the greatest success in his administration and ratify the island´s commitment to peace and willingness to advance in bilateral relations.

Likewise, it was reported that the Cubantop diplomat met with representatives of Norway. Havana and the European country are guarantor countries of the Final Peace Agreement with the FARC-EP.

Rodriguez described the meeting with signatories of the agreement as fruitful.

Colombia’s first leftist president was sworn into office Sunday, promising to fight inequality and heralding a turning point in the history of a country haunted by a long war between the government and guerrilla groups.

Petro, 62, has promised to tackle Colombia's social and economic inequalities by boosting spending on anti-poverty programs and increasing investment in rural areas.
