Havana, August 18 (RHC)-- The Cuban Tourism Ministry (MINTUR), urged steps aimed at a more sustainable sector to generate employment and promote the country's culture and domestic products.

MINTUR's Development Specialist Saray Álvarez told the Cuban News Agency (ACN) that Cuban tourism is closely linked to environmental policy through the National Environmental Strategy and the State Plan to fight climate change.

Álvarez stressed that MINTUR is rolling out about 21 initiatives as part of its Development Plan, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN 2030 Agenda.

She said that these measures are the declaration of special zones for better tourism activity to reach more sustainable management and efficient use of natural resources.

The official stressed that the studies of danger, vulnerability, and risk in these zones are periodically updated.

Likewise, Álvarez explained that MINTUR's priorities are to continue with the recovery and conservation of sandy beaches, to contribute with renewable energy sources to the national electricity generation matrix, and to strive for much better water management in the tourism sector.
