Havana, August 22 (RHC)-- Cuban authorities checked the progress of recovery work in the industrial zone of Matanzas, devastated by a major fire earlier this month.

Headed by the Cuban head of state, Miguel Díaz-Canel, in the meeting, it was reported that the primary damage is in the crude oil-soaked soil, where specialists are working on the bioremediation strategies to be applied., and the disposal of hazardous waste resulting from the recovery actions", said the Cuban Presidency.

Officials of the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Environment (CITMA) explained that air quality monitoring in the city of Matanzas shows similar behavior to previous days.

According to CITMAs specialists, no evidence of acid rain has been found, nor damage to the locality's flora and fauna or nearby protected areas and ecosystems, or harm to animal health.

The president of the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (INRH), Antonio Rodríguez, explained the details of an investment to ensure the water supply for the Antonio Guiteras thermoelectric plant and the surrounding population.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Construction, René Mesa, pointed out that the entities of his agency are working on various activities to mitigate the consequences of the incident, such as the hauling of debris and the recovery of steel.
