Havana, September 9 (RHC)-- The president of Guinea Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embaló, ended Friday an official visit to Cuba that included a meeting with the president of the Caribbean country, Miguel Díaz-Canel, and tours of places of interest.

The Guinean leader was seen off by Deputy Foreign Minister Anayansi Camejo, along with officials of the Foreign Ministry and the diplomatic corps of that nation on the island, reported the Cuban News Agency.

On Thursday, he held official conversations with his Cuban counterpart, Miguel Díaz-Canel, highlighting the historic nature of the relations between their respective countries.

On Friday, President Sissoco laid a wreath at the monument to the National Hero, Jose Marti, then held a meeting with some prominent Cuban internationalist fighters, reiterating the strong ties of solidarity between the two peoples.

He also visited the Fidel Castro Center and the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB).

Cuba and Guinea Bissau established diplomatic relations in 1973 and maintain close cooperation in health and human resources training, allowing thousands of young people from that West African nation to train in the Caribbean island in various specialties.
