During Marrero’s first tour of Asian nations as head of Government, he met with its major leaders, participated in a Vietnam-Cuba Business Promotion Forum, and was awarded the Ho Chi Minh Order.

Phnom Penh, Oct 6 (Prensa Latina) On Thursday, Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero ended in Phnom Penh his tour of Asian nations aimed at strengthening ties of brotherhood and cooperation with Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia.

The close friendship between the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and Cambodian King Father Norodom Sihanouk was one of the issues highlighted by Marrero and His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni, who received him in an audience at the Royal Palace on Wednesday.

The same day, the head of the Cuban Government met with Heng Samrin, President of the Parliament, and the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), in which the interest to strengthen ties between the legislatures of both nations was revealed.

During his stay in this country, Marrero met with his Cambodian counterpart Hun Sen and expressed his willingness to expand bilateral relations and promote the implementation of all memorandums of understanding signed.

The two heads of Government also witnessed the signing of two memorandums of understanding: the first on a cultural exchange program and the second for cooperation in physical education, culture, and sports.

These agreements, noted The Phnom Penh Post, link the ministries of culture of the two countries from 2022 to 2027, as well as Cambodia’s Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports with Cuba’s National Institute of Sports, Physical Education, and Recreation.

Marrero arrived in Cambodia from Laos and was received by the highest authorities of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, the State, and the Legislature, to whom he ratified the interest to progress in the bilateral cooperation in areas of common interest.

At the end of the official talks in Vientiane, four agreements were signed in higher education, agriculture, and health, which will give a strong impetus to bilateral relations.

Marrero began his first tour of Asian nations as head of Government, on September 28 in Hanoi where he met with its major leaders, participated in a Vietnam-Cuba Business Promotion Forum, and was awarded the Ho Chi Minh Order.
