Bogota, Nov 4 (RHC) The National Movement of Young People in Solidarity with Cuba of Colombia on Friday condemned the cruel and genocidal economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on the island more than six decades ago.

In a statement, following the voting at the United Nations General Assembly, where 185 countries supported the resolution “Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba,” it recalled that the leader of the Revolution Fidel Castro called this illegal US policy “economic warfare.”

“We believe that the blockade is the main obstacle to Cuba’s development and an attack against the sovereignty and self-determination of the Cuban people,” the youth organization said.

It pointed out that it is ironic that the United States presents itself as a leader of democracy, while it maintains an unjust blockade driven by political conceptions, as a result of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution.

Colombian youth joins the voices in the world that call for the lifting of the criminal blockade and condemns this abusive policy of over sixty years imposed by the US, it stressed.

This solidarity movement thanked Cuba for its efforts and support to achieve peace in Colombia, which today is moving “towards total peace, thanks to its commitment to this purpose.”

It underlined that it is unjust that a country guarantor of peace, be denominated “sponsor of terrorism, for this reason, we also call on the United States to remove Cuba from this list because Cuba has only made great efforts for peace.” (Prensa Latina)
