Cuban health authorities call for precautions to be taken in the face of COVID-19

Havana, Nov 18 (RHC) Cuba's Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) called for taking measures to avoid contracting COVID-19, considering the proximity of the end-of-year festivities, where large numbers of people gather.

The agency's communication, published on its website, stresses that when respiratory symptoms appear, it is necessary to go immediately to the health services, and those who live with this patient should adopt measures of self-protection, especially the use of masks and hand washing.

Other recommendations are to update the anti-COVID-19 vaccination schedule, as well as to maintain distance and use masks in case of participating in social events, on public transportation, or in other activities where many people are gathered.

Cuban health authorities affirm the behavior of the disease has been downward, with an average of 2.25 cases per day in the last four weeks.

Regarding mortality rates, there have been no deaths since August 19 of this year, making 91 days without deaths due to the pandemic.

The note indicates that the search for suspects remains active, with the performance of PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) and rapid tests to diagnose possible cases.

The MINSAP also reports that genomic surveillance continues to determine the strains and variants of the SARS-COV-2 coronavirus circulating in the national territory, with a predominance of the omicron variant, with its subvariants BA.4 and BA.5.

Reports from the World Health Organization indicate that globally it behaves the same way: between October 14 and November 14, 2022, 99.2 percent (%) of the total SARS-CoV-2 sequences (the virus causing COVID-19) correspond to the omicron variant of concern. (Source: ACN).
