Havana, Dec 21 (RHC) The First Meeting of Political Consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba and the Secretariat of State in the Offices of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Honduras was held in Tegucigalpa, capital of Honduras, on Tuesday.
According to the Minrex website, the consultations were chaired by the Cuban Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Josefina Vidal Ferreiro, and the Honduran Undersecretary of State for Foreign Policy, Gerardo Torres Zelaya.
The representatives of both countries exchanged various aspects of the bilateral agenda and reviewed the progress of cooperation projects in sectors of mutual interest such as health, education, transportation, and sports.
They also ratified the political will to continue deepening the ties of friendship and solidarity between the two countries and peoples.
Both parties acknowledged the excellent state of bilateral relations and agreed on the prospects for strengthening political-diplomatic, economic-commercial, and cooperation ties in the future.
Deputy Foreign Minister Josefina Vidal thanked Honduras for its historic position of rejection and condemnation of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States against our country, as well as the firm position of the Honduran government in the face of the exclusion of several countries of the region, including Cuba, from the IX Summit of the Americas.
The Cuban deputy minister was accompanied by Juan Roberto Loforte Osorio, Cuban Ambassador to Honduras, and other officials of the Embassy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
On the Honduran side, participating in the consultations were Angélica Álvarez, Undersecretary of State in the Office of Strategic Planning; Olivia Zúniga Cáceres, Honduran Ambassador to Cuba, and other directors and officials of the Foreign Ministry and the Secretariat of Strategic Planning.
In July, Cuba and Honduras signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote exchange and cooperation for the benefit of both peoples.
