Caracas, Jan 1 (RHC) Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro on Sunday congratulated the heroic Cuban people and government on the occasion of the 64th anniversary of the Revolution Triumph.

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela reaffirms on this date its admiration towards Cuba, to which we are united by historical ties of fraternity and similar challenges in defense of the people´s self-determination against any foreign interference that really harms the independence and national sovereignty, Maduro said in a message.

On the 64th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution, Venezuelans pay homage to the Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro (1926-2016).

President Maduro recalled Fidel Castro´s first visit to Venezuela in 1959, who said: “I want the Homeland concept to have a greater scope. May the destiny of our people be a single destiny! How long are we going to be in lethargy? How long are we going to be divided, victims of powerful interests? If the unity of our peoples has been fruitful, why should not the unity of nations be more fruitful?

Fidel Castro remarked “this is the Bolivarian thought. Venezuela must be the leading country of the Latin American peoples “, he assured.

Maduro´s statement also recalled women and men members of the Rebel Army who put an end to Fulgencio Batista´s ferocious dictatorship and subsequently led the Cuban Revolution along the path of anti-imperialism, socialism, and internationalism.

He also recalled the words of Commander Hugo Chávez (1954-2013) when he visited Cuba for the first time in 1994 stating that we must mutually nurture each other in a Latin American revolutionary project, as we have been for centuries, with the idea of a Hispano-American, Latin American and Caribbean continent, integrated as the single nation we are.
