World Radio Day
Havana, Feb 14 (RHC) On the occasion of World Radio Day on Monday, the President of the National Assembly People's Power Esteban Lazo congratulated all radio workers in Cuba.
On his Twitter account, the president of the Council of State said, ‘On World Radio Day, we congratulate all Cuban radio broadcasters committed to their people, who inform our society day after day.’
The Cuban National Radio System is made up of 100 stations, one of which is international, six are national, 19 are provincial and 74 are municipal, and almost all of them broadcast live audio over the Internet.
In 2011, the United Nations declared this day, coinciding with the date when the UN radio was created in 1946, as a service to inform about the activities of its headquarters and its agencies under the slogan Connecting the UN with the peoples of the world.
This year, the theme of the celebration is Radio and Peace, and according to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the role of this medium is of utmost importance, as ‘by informing the general public, radio broadcasters mold public opinion and frame a narrative that can influence national and international situations and decision-making processes.’ (Prensa Latina)
