Nearly five million Cubans went to the polls
Havana, Mar 26 (RHC) At 14:00 hours, local time, 4,883,476 Cubans had exercised their right to vote in the national elections.
Tomas Amaran, Vice President of the National Electoral Council explained on television that this figure represents 60.14 percent of the electoral roll of 8,120,072 voters.
He noted that the elections have been taking place without negative incidents and that the trend during the day is favorable compared to previous electoral processes.
Regarding the municipal elections, Sunday’s voting shows more than a six-percent increase in participation for the same closing time, and in the case of the Family Code Referendum, more than one percent.
The electoral official pointed out that more than 175,000 children have guarded the ballot boxes during the elections.
Amaran also highlighted the work of electoral authorities, especially those who work in the polling stations to elect all 470 lawmakers to the National Assembly. (Source: PL)
