Colombian Congressman Gabriel Becerra on Saturday expressed his government's will to strengthen brotherly relations with Cuba

Havana, Apr 8 (RHC) Colombian Congressman Gabriel Becerra on Saturday expressed his government's will to strengthen brotherly relations with Cuba, typical of a foreign policy that respects the sovereignty of both nations.

In statements published on the website of Cuba’s National Assembly of People’s Power (Parliament), Becerra pointed out that the objective is “to strengthen this path of brotherhood, relaunching our relations, which we hope will be consolidated in all fields.”

He stressed that as a lawmaker, his role is to support what has been done in other fields of the Executive and society and has a new impulse today.

We want to join, from the parliamentary perspective, an agenda that our governments have initiated to relaunch relations between Colombia and Cuba, he pointed out.

Becerra highlighted Cuba’s contribution to the peace process in Colombia and regretted that Cuba has been punished for favoring dialogue to build peace dialogue on Cuban territory.

He pointed out that his government and the Peace Commission of Congress reject this position, which is contrary to Cuba’s solidarity with Colombia and does not help build the environment and the possibilities of a political solution.

Becerra was grateful that “despite adversities, a Colombian delegation will come in the next few days to have the necessary space in this territory to advance in the dialogue.”

The congressman rejected Cuba’s inclusion in Washington’s list of State Sponsors of Terrorism, a sanction that he described as contrary to the altruistic objective of helping the people of Colombia.

In his capacity as co-chairman of the Cuba-Colombia Parliamentary Friendship Group, Becerra pointed out that he wished to visit Havana again to promote a common agenda, which reaffirms the principle of brotherhood that unites both nations.
