Cuba-Cambodia relationship distinguishes respect and admiration
Havana, April 12 (RHC) - Respect, admiration and the identification of common objectives of progress, despite the geographical distance, are hallmarks of the ties between Cuba and Cambodia, Ambassador Liurka Rodríguez stated in Phnom Penh today in a meeting with members of the Association of Cambodian Graduates in Cuba (AGCC).
In the meeting where diplomats, sports collaborators and Cuban residents in the Kingdom also participated, Rodríguez stressed that these ties, established more than six decades ago, also have "a key historical component."
The head of the Cuban state mission listed the main milestones that have occurred since Havana and Phnom Penh established diplomatic relations on April 15, 1960 and particularly highlighted the exchange of visits between the respective prime ministers in 2022.
She also highlighted the highest-level dialogue between the authorities of both nations and the cooperation agreements signed in the areas of health, sports and culture, among other consensuses that will give new impetus to bilateral ties, he envisioned.
The commitment to continue at Cuba's side in its demand for the end of the US intensified economic, financial and commercial blockade was expressed by the Honorary President of the AGCC, Hen Chanly, who also advocated continuing to join forces in favor of increasing cooperation. In this effort, he remarked, they can be sure that they will be able to count on the graduates on the island as a faithful bastion.
Addressing those present, the current head of the AGCC, Borin Khieu, remarked the performance of the Solidarity Movement with Cuba, which has accompanied the Latin American nation at all times.
The Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Sen, visited Havana in September last year, becoming the first senior leader of the Kingdom to travel to the island since Cuba's accession to the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC).
On the occasion, Hun Sen and Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel witnessed the signing of several agreements in the health, sports and international relations areas.
The Cambodian head of government also held a meeting with the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Raúl Castro, in which he evoked his visit to Cuba in 1999, when he was awarded the José Martí Order by the historical leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro.
