Geneva, September 2 (RHC) -– Cuba has condemned in Geneva the terrorist acts against the Iraqi population and alerted that the crisis in that country is closely related to the 2003 illegal aggression of that country by the United States and its allies.

During a special session of the UN Human Rights Council on Iraq, Cuban ambassador, Anayansi Rodriguez, rejected the deliberate attacks against urban areas and the massacre of civilians in that nation. The extremist Islamic State has taken hold of the northern Iraqi territory and, according to the United Nations, violence caused over 1,400 deaths in August alone.

Cuba is following with great concern the situation in Iraq and in the Middle East, whose causes are found in the unjustified intervention by Washington and its NATO allies, responsible for chaos and destruction in that country, Rodriguez pointed out.

The ambassador said that some superpowers encourage, train, fund and provide weapons to extremist and violent groups to launch them against sovereign governments in some countries. Later, in the face of the consequences, they paradoxically say they are trying to fight against them.

The diplomat rejected any attempt to take advantage of the regrettable situation in Iraq to promote domination and plunder of that country's natural resources. Cuba rejects these plans, which will worsen the situation and will have very serious consequences for peace.
