International Seminar on Journalism and Tourism begins in Cuba

Havana, June 19 (RHC) The 16th International Seminar on Journalism and Tourism begins this Monday in Havana until June 23, where the most relevant current issues on these issues will be examined.

Hilda Prieto, president of the specialized tourism journalism section of the Union of Cuban Journalists (UPEC), confirmed the presence of delegates from Panama, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Uruguay, Argentina, Ecuador, Canada, the United States and Cuba, in a meaningful gathering on the latest communication trends.

With the presence of informants interested in the matter, the appointment is prepared by the José Martí International Institute of Journalism of this capital, venue of the event and the tourism section.

The call is carried out by UPEC, which in recent years has led studies on how to benefit the diffusion of the travel industry in Cuba and the Latin American region.

Among the topics are the perspectives of tourism in 2023 and 2024 in the world and in the Caribbean in particular; the strategies of the main hotel chains; the industry without chimneys in Cuba; new technologies and tourism, together with the main challenges. Top-level experts will propose answers to the questions indicated as topics for the meeting.

This new meeting between journalists, communicators, community managers and other professionals will be an ideal space to analyze tourism trends and assess the role of information and communication technologies (ICT) from three points of view: tourists, hotel management, and social communication.

Representatives of the Ministry of Tourism (Mintur), technology companies and hotel chains will present development plans for this industry in Cuba, including the project to convert Cayo Largo del Sur into the first smart destination in the Caribbean.

Guests and participants will also examine information and communication channels and options such as social networks.

The appointment will take place through conferences, panels and exhibitions in morning sessions, while in the afternoons and evenings the attendees will make visits to reference hotels.

The program also provides for meetings with new actors in the Cuban economy -micro, small and medium-sized private companies-, as well as tours of centers of cultural interest in Havana, visiting the Tropicana Cabaret and other places of interest.

On the other hand, the participants will visit the resort of Varadero, the most important in the country, 140 kilometers east of Havana. (Source: PL)
