Havana, July 16 (RHC)-- "Congratulations, santaclareños, on the 334th anniversary of our city," says a tweet from Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, who joined the celebration for the founding of Santa Clara, in the center of our country.

The First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba, who is currently visiting the nation of Portugal, is a deputy for this city where he was born, graduated as an electronic engineer and obtained a doctorate in Technical Sciences at the Marta Abreu de Las Villas University.

With the playing of the Diana Mambisa and the symbolic meeting between families from the municipality of Remedios and the provincial capital, the activities for the 334th anniversary of its foundation began in Santa Clara.

During the celebration this July 15th, a tamarind tree was planted in the hills of Loma del Capiro, since it was precisely under this tree that the first founding mass of the city was held.

Also at the foot of the statue of Doña Marta Abreu de Estévez (Santa Clara, November 13, 1845 - Paris, January 2, 1909), in Leoncio Vidal Park, a tribute was paid to the benefactress of this city in the 19th century, who also supported the Mambi troops in the Cuban War of Independence.

In El Carmen Park took place the foundational commemoration, while in the Caturla Hall of the Martí Provincial Library was held the Solemn Assembly of the People's Power dedicated to the anniversary of the founding of the capital of the Cuban province of Villa Clara.

As part of the celebrations, the Distinction for Cultural Collaboration with the city was awarded to ten eminent personalities, community leaders, teachers, artists, representatives of the health sector, sportsmen, combatants, among other sectors.

The anniversary of Santa Clara this Saturday coincided with the 90th birthday of the Provincial Radio Station CMHW.
