Havana, July 31 (RHC)-- Representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Cuba, local institutions and organizations and the United Nations System on Monday stressed the need to defend with actions the humanist legacy of former South African President Nelson Mandela (1918-2013).

During the closing activity for the celebration of the month dedicated to the African leader, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize (1993), as well as the International Mandela Day (July 18), the speakers ratified that the best tribute will be to contribute to the struggle for a more just and inclusive world.

Held in Havana's 15th home for children without family protection, the meeting allowed participants to finish painting the building, a repair promoted by the South African Embassy in the island, in collaboration with the Federation of Cuban Women and the Vitral paint company.

The educational institution, which houses 10 children and adolescents from several municipalities of the capital, under the care of 13 workers and four nurses, is an expression of the country's political will not to leave children and particularly the most vulnerable sectors unprotected.

This was referred to by the National Director of Special Education of the Ministry of Education, Beatriz Roque, who thanked the South African government for the gesture of beautifying the building, and highlighted the bilateral relations, forged in the struggle against apartheid, under the guidance of the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz (1926-2016) and Nelson Mandela.
