Cuba and the UN exchange on a common agenda for sustainable development

Havana, Aug 10 (RHC) The First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Gerardo Peñalver, and the UN Deputy Secretary General, Amina Mohammed, discussed in New York the common agenda for sustainable development.

The Cuban Mission to the United Nations reported that both discussed the status of compliance with the 2030 Agenda, the role of the United Nations and Cuba's position at the head of the Group of 77 plus China in the face of current challenges.

In January 2022, the Caribbean country assumed for the first time the pro tempore presidency of the G77 + China, the negotiating bloc of developing countries. In mid-June of that year, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel called a Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Group to be held in Havana.

Under the theme Current Development Challenges: Role of Science, Technology and Innovation, the event will take place on September 15 and 16 of this year. In the president's opinion, "the occasion should serve to reinforce our unity and decide on collective and practical actions to effectively confront contemporary challenges." (Source: PL)
