Havana, August 16 (RHC) -- The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel celebrated on Wednesday the debut of his country in the Little League World Series, a baseball event that has been held in the United States for more than seven decades.

The president highlighted in his X profile, formerly Twitter, the national pride that means the presence of the little baseball players from the eastern city of Bayamo, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, where, in the opening of the tournament, they will face the Musashi Fuchu team, from Tokyo, champion of the regional league of Japan.

The head of state highlighted that the Cuban little baseball players will make history today with their debut at 17:00, local time, on the grass of the Volunteer Stadium against a rival with credentials in these leagues during the versions of 2000, 2003 and 2013; in the last two they returned with the trophy to the land of the Rising Sun.

Regardless of this afternoon's result, the coaching staff of the Antillean team and the powerful Cuban baseball fans already recognize the value of the participation of 13 players from the Antillean island in the northern league.

Previously, by dint of batting they won the ticket to the competition against the difficult team of Habana del Este.

The little champions from Bayamo told their public that "We are going to play with our hearts", and that they are convinced that they will give their best on the field to achieve a good result in the competition, scheduled from August 16 to 27.
