Havana, September 11 (ACN) -- In its desire that the Summit of the Group of 77 (G-77) and China meets its objectives in the face of the just demands of the countries of the South, Cuba is finalizing organizational and insurance details, while heads of state and government and other personalities confirm their attendance.

In recent days, Miguel Díaz-Canel, President of the Republic, together with Manuel Marrero, Prime Minister, and several members of the organizing committee, verified the preparation of the facilities that will host the participants in the event: the Havana Convention Palace, the Palco Hotel, Pabexpo, the El Palenque restaurant and the Cubanacán Hall (El Laguito).

In them, he praised the actions undertaken by the forces of the Palco Business Group and other entities, which are putting the final touches for the sake of greater lucidity and functionality of these venues, without forgetting that the José Martí International Airport is also getting ready to receive the leaders and other personalities.

But as the G-77 and China meeting approaches, to be held on the coming 15 and 16, the list of heads of state and government and other high-ranking officials of international organizations, some of them interested in participating in the 78th session of the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) in New York, continues to grow.

Together with UN Secretary General Antonio Gutterres, Presidents Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil, Alberto Fernández of Argentina, Xiomara Castro of Honduras and Ralph Gonsalves, Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, have already announced their presence in Havana, according to their respective foreign ministries and the press media.

Also in attendance were Presidents Abdelatif Rashid of Iraq, Luis Arce of Bolivia, Gustavo Petro of Colombia, Filipe Nyusi of Mozambique, Ranil Wickremesinghe of Sri Lanka and Thongloun Sisoulith of Laos, among others.

To address the current challenges of development and the role of science, technology and innovation among the countries of the South, the G-77 and China Summit will take place, of which since January of this year Cuba assumed -for the first time- the pro tempore presidency of the Group, with the commitment to advance the common interests of the South.

Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez recently told the press that the meeting is indispensable in the midst of the world multi-sectoral crisis, and will be held at a time when the countries of the South are seeking a solution to their problems within the spheres of independence and sovereignty.
