Havana, November 15 (RHC) -- The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel, and Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz participated in the opening session of the 14th International Meeting on Globalization and Development Problems, at the Havana Convention Palace.

The meeting paid a graphic tribute to the leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro Ruz (1926-2016), inspirer of these events since 1999, and a minute of silence to the victims of the Palestinian people massacred by Israel in the Gaza Strip.

In the welcome, Oscar Luis Hung Pentón, president of the National Association of Economists and Accountants of Cuba (ANEC) highlighted the importance of this event.

"Specialists from 42 nations, in respectful dialogue and from different currents of thought, will analyze the pressing problems of the current crisis and how they can contribute with consensual solutions," he said.

He also expressed that in 2023 the growth of the world Gross Domestic Product (GDP) will be less than 3%, a deceleration with respect to the rhythm of the previous year.

Hung Pentón added that the current economic situation, war conflicts and climate change make it impossible to meet the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.

For his part, the prestigious Argentine economist Julio Gambina presented in the first Master Conference the trends of contemporary capitalism. Proposals for alternatives.

The meeting was also attended by Joel Queipo Ruiz, member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee and head of the Economic and Productive Department, and Alejandro Gil Fernández, Deputy Prime Minister and head of Economy and Planning, together with other authorities.
