Iran and Cuba advocate strengthening parliamentary ties

 

Havana, Dec 4 (RHC) The head of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, and Cuban president Miguel Díaz-Canel ratified the willingness to continue strengthening bilateral relations, especially in the parliamentary sphere.

In a meeting held this Monday, Ghalibaf said that the visit of the Cuban president to Iran marks a new beginning in the ties between both countries. For his part, Díaz-Canel stressed the importance of the achievements in bilateral ties reflected and supported in Interparliamentary ties.

According to the Presidency of Cuba on its X account, the Cuban Head of State conveyed greetings from the president of the National Assembly of People's Power, Esteban Lazo, and extended an invitation to the Iranian leader to visit the Caribbean country. He also thanked Iran for always supporting the island’s demand for the end of the US blockade.

Díaz-Canel also held official talks with his Iranian counterpart Seyed Ebrahim Raisi, which he described as very positive and an expression of the solid ties of brotherhood between Havana and Tehran.

Cuba and Iran have a consolidated friendship that began on August 8, 1979, and are the target of sanctions by the United States. In these decades, both countries signed and consolidated agreements and exchanges in areas such as biotechnology, nanotechnology, pharmaceutical industry and food safety.

President Miguel Díaz-Canel arrived in Iran yesterday as part of a tour of Middle Eastern countries that included official visits to Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. (Source: PL)
