Dani Hernández is considered one of the most outstanding figures in world ballet

Havana, January 12 (RHC) The First Dancer of the National Ballet of Cuba (BNC), Dani Hernández, was appointed director of the National Ballet School, as reported by the prestigious company on its official website.

Trained by the renowned Cuban teachers Fernando Alonso, Ramona de Saá and Mirta Hermida, Hernández is considered one of the most outstanding figures in world ballet.

The BNC statement underlined the 34-year-old dancer’s technical and stylistic rigor, as well as well as his experience as a teacher, and described him as a great reference for the Cuban Ballet School.

The appointment, at the school's headquarters in Old Havana, was attended by Viengsay Valdés, director of the National Ballet of Cuba; Ariadna Padrón García, general director of Training and Development of the Ministry of Culture; and Elizabeth Castro Rodríguez, director of the National Center of Art Schools.

Born in 1989 in the city of Remedios, in the Cuban central province of Villa Clara, he began his studies in 1997 at the Olga Alonso Vocational Art School in that town, and later he continued at the National Ballet School.

During his time as a student, he obtained several distinctions, including the Silver Medal in the Competition of the International Meeting of Academies for Ballet Teaching, held in Havana in 2006.

The Cuban portal Ecured points out that that same year he began his professional life by joining the cast of the National Ballet of Cuba under the direction of Alicia Alonso, reaching the rank of first soloist in 2009.

With the company he has performed in countries in America and Europe. In 2011, due to his artistic-technical development, talent and discipline, he was promoted to the rank of First Dancer. (Source: PL)
