Havana, March 24 (RHC)-- U.S. authorities have approved more than 50 million dollars for subversive actions in Cuba, with emphasis on media manipulation campaigns, the Cubadebate web portal denounced on Sunday.
Under the title "Blockade and subversion against Cuba: Fines to banks and more than 50 million for interference programs", the director of the publication, Randy Alonso, commented on some of the most recent steps of Washington's policy against the island.
"On Friday, March 22, the anti-Cuban mafia in the House of Representatives managed to introduce the new funds in a Resolution that authorizes the financing of 1.2 billion dollars to sustain the operations of some areas of the U.S. Government", explained the also director of IDEAS Multimedios.
According to a press release published by the office of anti-Cuban congressman Mario Díaz-Balart, the regulation contemplates 25 million dollars for the programs of "promotion of democracy in Cuba"; the sum means an increase of 25 percent in relation to 2023, Alonso detailed.
The analyst pointed out that these programs are fundamentally aimed at developing subversive actions against the island and "manipulative campaigns" within the United States and in the rest of the world.
"Through the State Department, NED and USAID, they generously finance anti-Cuban lobby organizations in Florida and elsewhere and pay their allowance to the mercenaries they have in Cuba," the expert added.
He indicated that a part of that financing is used to maintain the anti-Cuban media machinery and the social network agitators that have been fostered in the last 10 years "with the express objective of having an impact, generating manipulated narratives and confusing Cuban public opinion".
With a similar purpose, the legislative proposal subscribed by the U.S. House allocates 25 million for the 2024 work of the Office of Cuba Broadcasting, in charge of Radio and TV Martí, which represents a notable increase compared to the 13 million of the last fiscal year, he said.
In addition, an additional "unspecified" amount is set aside for the Open Technology Fund to promote technologies that foster "Internet freedom" in Cuba, Alonso said. (Source: Prensa Latina)
